Announcements User Guide

General Description

A announcement is nothing more then a short article or note with a headline. Each program and the association main pages will automatically display the headlines of all announcements for that program or association. Users may then click on a headline to see the complete article.

Each announcement has three components:

  • It belongs to a program or sport.
  • It has a headline. The headline should be short and to the point about the subject of the announcement. It should be mixed case.
  • It has a body. The body of the announcement is the information you are trying to provide. The body may include images, links and various text formatting.

Suggested Uses

Use announcements for information that has a limited life but is also highly sought after. For example, people want to know when try-outs are scheduled. Announcements should exist for a limited time and then be deleted.

  • Notify users of upcoming events like registrations or tryouts.
  • Point out policy changes.
  • Tell users about late breaking developments.

How to use

Announcements are easy to use. Start by "Adding". Select the program, enter a headline and then the article. When all the information is ready, click on "Add Release" and you are done. The headline of the announcement will automatically be displayed the next time a user goes to your main program page.

Suppose you add a announcement and discover that you made a mistake. Use the Change Announcement page to correct the error.

Once a announcement expires it is important to delete it. There is nothing worse then old, out of date content laying around.

Body Features

As noted above, the body of a announcement may contain several features such as images, links and text formatting. These features are added by including special sequences of characters. The web site detects these sequences and inserts the correct HTML code to accomplish what you want.

To see the available sequences please view the Text Formatting Guide
