Configuring Outlook to Handle {SPAM}
- Create a junk folder. - You need a place to put the junk so the first step is to create a junk folder.
File -> Folder (you may have to pull down menu to see all options) -> New Folder
This will open a dialog box. Enter "Junk" as the folder name and if you want, select a parent folder such as "Mailbox". Then click "Ok".
- Now we need to create a rule. Make sure that you are in your inbox. This is where you normally receive your mail. There should be a button called "Organize". Click this.
- This will open a window within your normal inbox. In the upper right corner you should see "Rules Wizard". Click that.
- The rules wizard dialog box will open. Click the "New" button.
- From the list, select (click on) "Apply this rule after message arrives". Then click "Next".
- In the next window, check the checkbox by "with specific words in the subject". The phrase will appear in the lower window. Click on the underlined "specific words". A new window will appear. In the "Add new" box enter "*{spam}*" without the double quotes. Then click "Add" and "Ok".
- Click "Next" to get to the "what do you want to do with it window". Check the option "move it to a specific fodler". When you check the checkbox the same phrase will appear in the lower window. Then click on the underlined "specified". Now a list of your folders will show up. Click on the junk folder created above. then "Ok".
- Next you will be taken to the exceptions window. There are none so just click "Next".
- Next you will be asked for a name for the rule. Enter "Spam" and then "Finish.
- Click OK to leave the Rules Wizard and then the "x" in the upper right to close the organize window.
This rule will automatically move all detected spam to the junk folder. It is a good idea to check the junk folder a couple times per week for any mails that were marked as Spam that shouldn't have been. Delete all others.
If you get mail from a particular address that is marked as spam but really isn't you can send the address to service@jmtservices.com, indicate your name and your web site address and ask that the address be added to the whitelist.
